Academic posters are an excellent way for clinicians to showcase their work at conferences and meetings.  Similarly, to oral presentations, a successful poster can generate discussion amongst the audience members therefore it’s important to have a clear plan of what to say when stood alongside your poster. When done effectively they provide a succinct and attractive summary of your project. This session aims to provide you with a practical and concise method to prepare an academic poster.  The main focus should be on the content, results and conclusions, to allow your poster to be understood in the limited timeframe generally permitted.

Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Cancer Care passionate about supporting oncology patients and education across all Health care professionals in primary and secondary care. Currently Lead Nurse for Acute Oncology (AOS) and Non-Specific Symptoms Services across Frimley Health. Background: Trained in South Africa in SA Medical Services as a military nurse in general, community, psychiatric nursing and midwifery. Completed Critical Care Course and moved to the UK in 2000. Worked in General medical/surgical, Cardiac, Oncology ICU over 2 decades. Started up the Critical Outreach Team at the Royal Marsden in 2003. Module Lead for Principles of Cancer Care in-house module with University of West London. Has been an honorary lecturer on various advanced clinical skills and Non-medical Prescribing courses at St George’s University of London, East Anglia University. Also, a Medical Simulation training Facilitator at various Simulation Training centres. Completed Independent Nurse Prescriber module in 2011 and currently supports nurses during their non-medical prescribing training. Completed MSc Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Cancer care in 2017. Actively involved in National AOS Education Workgroup and editing National AOS Competency Passport.

Sarah Ivey
My name is Sarah Ivey. I am the Team leader for the Lung Cancer CNS teams at Frimley Park Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital. I have an MSc in Palliative care.
An important part of my role is to develop the service to achieve quality care and better outcomes. I have worked collaboratively on several initiatives including: a pilot study evaluating the Rockwood Frailty Score compared to the ECOG scale for assessing patient's fitness for treatment; setting up a Nepalese Buddy Scheme; initiating Support groups and Moving On programmes which provide support and self-management strategies to patients and their families who have completed treatment; setting up a Nurse-led Best Supportive Care clinic which was commended in the GIRFT report 2020; pilot study to assess effectiveness of Enhanced Supportive Care clinic jointly working with palliative care consultant in the DGH setting.
During 2020 I learnt a new advanced nursing skill in performing EBUS sampling, to support the Respiratory Consultants and ensure that our patients continued to have rapid diagnostic testing throughout the pandemic (in line with the Cancer Strategy). My main areas of interest are Supportive Care and Research with the aim to improve QOL for our patients diagnosed with lung cancer.
