Pre-doctoral, Doctoral and Post-doctoral funding opportunities offered by the NIHR Academy

Please join Dr Mal Palin, Senior Programme Manager at the NIHR Academy who will present an introduction to the salaried research training awards and practitioner academic training awards currently administered by the NIHR Academy. Taken together, these award schemes, which offer funding for clinicians with different ranges of research experience, comprise full career development pathways for aspiring nurse researchers. The webinar will describe the funding opportunities available, cover the key differences between them, explain the application and assessment processes, and reflect on what makes a good application.

Dr Mal PalinDr Mal Palin

Dr Mal Palin is a Senior Programme Manager at the NIHR Academy. Mal has supported the NIHR's Personal Research Training provision since 2011, and currently manages elements of the HEE / NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme for Non-medical Healthcare Professionals and the NIHR Local Authority Academic Fellowship Programme. Mal sits on the ICA Programme’s Oversight Group and has held responsibility for the programme’s Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship Scheme and Career Mentorship Scheme since their introduction.


Cathy HenshallCathy Henshall

LCNUK Committee member. Dr Catherine Henshall MN, RGN, MA, PhD is Chair of the Research Interest Group for Lung Cancer Nursing UK. Catherine is a clinical academic nurse and holds a joint position between Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust where she is the Head of Research Delivery and Oxford Brookes University where she is a Reader in the Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery. Catherine also works closely with researchers in the Department of Psychiatry at Oxford University, where she holds an honorary contract. She is an NIHR Associate Director of Nursing and the NIHR 70@70 Senior Nurse and Midwife Research Leader Programme Director.
