A varied programme which taught and inspired me in equal measure

Vanessa Beattie, LCNUK Member

This blog is part of our #LCNUK2022 series, sharing attendees experiences of our LCNUK Annual Conference.

What an absolute delight it was to attend a face to face conference. It feels like such a long time since we had the privilege to do so.

It was somewhat strange for me to attend the conference as a delegate following stepping down from the LCNUK committee in 2019 and dare I say it provided an opportunity to network more widely and allowed more time for me to visit and engage with the exhibitors. It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with some ‘old’ friends and meet some new!

From start to finish the conference provided a varied programme which taught and inspired me in equal measure. All presentations were top notch.

A few stand outs for me:

  • David Baldwin's keynote presentation on the ‘Route back to improving lung cancer survival’ post Covid pandemic was concise, saddening to acknowledge UK’s position globally. David provided a clear message as to what is needed for the UK to achieve 25 by 25.
  • Improving communication with patients with Mike Connelly elucidating that we listen, hold the advice enabling the patient has time to find solutions was
  • Compassion fatigue training by Jayne Ellis – What a fantastic lady! I think most if not all the audience identified with factors/symptoms.
  • Mesothelioma Update – Fantastic what the Scottish Network have achieved in a relatively short timeline.

Huge thanks to Jackie, the LCNUK committee and of course the Red Hotters for making the conference a success.

Looking forward already to May 2023!
