Management of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer but the UK has the highest incidence of the disease in the world.  Because of its rarity it can be challenging for lung cancer teams to keep up to date with the latest developments in treatment. To support our LCNUK members in this challenging area, Leah Taylor from Mesothelioma UK presents the latest information and advice on the management of Mesothelioma. The webinar will be chaired by Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist and LCNUK Committee Member Victoria Anderson, and aims to support Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists in the delivery of evidence-based and best practice care.

All healthcare professionals are welcome to join this webinar and to participate in the Q&A session that will follow this presentation.

Speakers

  • Victoria Anderson

    Vicki qualified as a registered nurse in 2004 and has worked as a lung cancer nurse specialist since 2012. Prior to this role, she worked on both respiratory medicine and oncology in-patient wards.
    Vicki completed an MSc in End of life Care at Northumbria University in 2012. She has enjoyed being involved with research at a national level through the Lung Cancer Nursing UK workshops and has presented examples of her teams work at national conferences. Vicki has also carried out several service development projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
    Vicki and her colleagues offer in-patient and outpatient support for patients from pre-diagnosis onwards. She was involved the development of patient information and in the setting up of the support group, which has now been running successfully for 10 years. Vicki offers nurse-led clinics at various points throughout the pathway, supported by qualifications in clinical skills and non-medical prescribing.
    Vicki previously worked as a clinical lead with the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) lung cancer work stream and welcomed the opportunity to hear about the incredible work that LCNS teams are doing locally.

  • Leah Taylor

    Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust/Mesothelioma UK
    Leah Taylor qualified in 1996 and has spent her career in palliative care and lung cancer, having previously been Lead Lung Cancer Nurse at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. In 2015 Leah joined Mesothelioma UK as a CNS becoming a Team Leader for the north of England and Scotland in 2018 and Head of Nursing in 2022. Leah leads the team of 30+ mesothelioma nurses across the UK who are dedicated to improving the lives of people with and affected by mesothelioma, in addition to this role Leah retains a clinical role as a CNS at Northumbria. Leah is active in research having just completed an initial qualitative study exploring nutrition and appetite in mesothelioma and is passionate about increasing research opportunities for nurses.
