Imaging staging of Lung cancer

Please join Dr Allanah Barker to discuss current guidelines on imaging staging of lung cancer which will be reviewed, along with different approaches to staging and a range of cases from routine to tricky. Educational aims/learning objectives include: 

  • Be aware of the current guidelines on imaging in staging lung cancer, and where to access them. 
  • Have an understanding of which imaging modalities are useful, in what circumstances, and what their potential limitations are.
  • Have an idea of an appropriate “first steps” approach to imaging staging.

Particularly suitable for those who attend thoracic oncology MDTs, planning meetings, organise imaging for patients on the lung cancer pathway or meet patients on the pathway to discuss what they should expect.

  • Allanah Barker

    Consultant Radiologist , Royal Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge
    Dr Allanah Barker is a consultant Radiologist at Royal Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. She completed a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Radiology at Royal Papworth Hospital and was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in Cardiothoracic radiology in 2019.
    She has a special interest in Thoracic imaging and intervention, in particular in oncology, and is trained in Endobronchial Ultrasound and Endoscopic Ultrasound for full staging of lung cancer. Dr. Barker is regional training programme director in cardiovascular radiology and is an advisory editor for Clinical Radiology.
  • Lavinia Magee

    Lavinia is Nurse Consultant, Thoracic Oncology, at Royal Papworth Hospital. Her oncology career started in 1997 as a clinical research nurse and database manager. As a NLCFN member she was awarded the first Research Interest Group Grant to look at the psycho-social impact of taking TKIs. In 2013 she became a committee member of the NLCFN and was involved in developing the Using Your Voice workshops and Promoting Research in Oncology Nursing project. She represents the NLCFN at the UK Lung Cancer Coalition, Lung Cancer Europe forum and is a member of LORD NCRI subgroup.
    Running 2 nurse-led follow up clinics per week and working within a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, it is an honour to look after patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma. The NLCFN provides an excellent way to share ideas and expertise and improve services for patients and their carers.
