Professor John Gosney manages the service in diagnostic thoracic pathology provided for the city of Liverpool and contributes to the service in the predictive profiling of lung cancer provided for the greater Merseyside area. He is an international authority on the pathology of pulmonary tumours, especially neuroendocrine tumours and their precursor lesions and the genomic and proteomic pathology of non-small cell lung cancer and its application to management, and has over 200 publications in the field. He has been author and co-author of the Royal College of Pathologists’ datasets and guidelines for the handling and reporting of pulmonary specimens, contributor to the World Health Organisation’s classification of tumours of the lung and pleura, and is President of the Association of Pulmonary Pathologists. In 2017, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Thoracic Oncology Group for his contribution to thoracic oncology
