Vicki qualified as a registered nurse in 2004 and has worked as a lung cancer nurse specialist since 2012. Prior to this role, she worked on both respiratory medicine and oncology in-patient wards.
Vicki completed an MSc in End of life Care at Northumbria University in 2012. She has enjoyed being involved with research at a national level through the Lung Cancer Nursing UK workshops and has presented examples of her teams work at national conferences. Vicki has also carried out several service development projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Vicki and her colleagues offer in-patient and outpatient support for patients from pre-diagnosis onwards. She was involved the development of patient information and in the setting up of the support group, which has now been running successfully for 8 years. Vicki offers nurse-led clinics at various points throughout the pathway and is currently undertaking her nurse-prescribing qualification.
Vicki is currently working as a clinical lead with the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) lung cancer work stream and has welcomed the opportunity to hear about the incredible work that LCNS teams are doing locally.
