Venencia Rayson

Venencia Rayson (Vee) is Registered Nurse and Trained midwife, originally from Zimbabwe, who moved to England in 2002.


Her career in England began at the University Hospitals of Leicester where she worked along side inspiring clinicians and lung cancer specialist nurses who nurtured her passion for lung cancer care. In 2007, she gained a BSc in Specialist Nursing Practice (Cancer) from De Montfort University, which deepened her understanding of cancer care and strengthened her commitment to improving outcomes for patients.
In 2008 she joined The Nightingale Breast Cancer and Genetics Centre in Wythenshawe Manchester where she gained valuable leadership experience and deeper understanding of holistic and patient centred care. In January 2010 Vee joined Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse. Initially she was the only nurse in post. Over the years she has helped transform and expand the lung cancer services. Improving patient pathways, access to diagnostics and overall patient experience.
Vee started an MSc program in Delivering Quality Cancer Services at the University of Central Lancashire, successfully completing all modules including becoming a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) in 2018. Unfortunately, she didn’t manage to complete her dissertation due to personal tragedy. In 2021 Vee was appointed as the Clinical Lead Specialist Nurse for Lung Cancer and Bronchoscopy Services. A role which she continues to drive service improvement, patient experience and multidisciplinary collaboration. Vee is passionate about expediting pathways to ensure timely investigations and treatment.
As the Clinical Lead Nurse, she represents her Trust on the Greater Manchester Lung Cancer Pathway Board. An independent prescriber and experienced educator Vee lead survivorship nurse led clinics providing holistic, patient centred care, and mentors junior nurses, fostering growth and high standard of care. she remains dedicated to advancing lung cancer patient pathway.
Outside work, she serves as a Chairperson of Liverpool Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Support Group a charity organisation based in Merseyside, advocating for awareness and support within the community.
