Kirstie Woods

Kirstie qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2000 and has always been focus on respiratory nursing. Kirstie was appointed Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2008, working in NHS Lanarkshire, Scotland and then to her current position as a Lung Cancer Advanced Nurse Practitioner in 2019.

Kirstie is passionate about advanced nursing practice and has progressively developed the scope of her own clinical practice. Kirstie can examine patients and evaluate their physical signs. Kirstie is recognised as able to request a broad range of imaging investigations after IRMER training and has gained a non-medical prescribing qualification.

As a Lung Cancer CNS, Kirstie was involved in the delivery of oncology treatments - assessment of patients having SACT including immunotherapy and biologic treatment, “Day Eight” oral chemotherapy assessment, and telephone assessment after completion of radical treatment modalities. Presently, Kirstie undertakes three ANP-led clinics on a weekly basis and is the first healthcare professional to see patients referred with an abnormal chest X-ray and lead on investigations. Kirstie is dedicated to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care and supporting patients affected by lung cancer to live well at every stage of their treatment and beyond.

From an academic perspective, Kirstie completed her MSc in Advanced Practice in Cancer Care in 2018, and is enthusiastic about research that underpins clinical management. Kirstie has given presentations at specialty conferences locally, nationally and internationally. Kirstie has gained experience with a range programmes and research projects that enhance lung cancer patient care.

Kirstie currently hold positions within the Scottish Lung Cancer Nursing Forum, West of Scotland Managed Clinical Network and the British Thoracic Society Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma SAG.
