LCNUK2025: Sending us home feeling proud

Wilson, J (LCNUK Member)

I was delighted to receive a travel bursary which allowed me to attend this years Annual Conference in Heathrow. As ever the 2 days were packed with interesting and informative sessions whilst the atmosphere was welcoming and joyous. A real celebration of what we all do and how we support one another with the lung cancer (and mesothelioma) patient at the centre of it all.

As a nurse working solely in mesothelioma over the past 5 years, dedicated lung cancer conferences can sometimes be a little alienating, but this was different. Of course, the event included crucial updates on treatment developments specific to lung cancer but many of the sessions overlapped in terms of the information and support needed to care for patients with other cancers, such as mesothelioma. These sessions included environmental issues, fitness to drive, treatment related toxicity and the emerging roles within the lung cancer nursing teams. Last but by no means least was a session all about hope, expertly and emotionally delivered by Mel Erwin, sending us home feeling proud of our achievements and the impact we make on the lives of those diagnosed with thoracic malignancies.

I’m looking forward to Glasgow 2026 already.
