The LCNUK Annual Award programme is a fantastic opportunity for current members to showcase a project or initiative they have been involved with. The project should relate to the care of patients with lung cancer/mesothelioma and/or their carers and to the role of the lung cancer nurse specialist. Applications close 30th September 2022.

Don't miss out on this great opportunity for LCNUK members. Funding for one - two small projects up to a total value of £5,000 per application is available for projects that generate research, evaluation or audit data that inform the practice of LCNUK members. The application closing date is 2 September 2022 at 5pm.

The objective of this survey is to explore the experiences and preferences of people with lung cancer in Europe regarding the care pathway. It take around 15 minutes to complete the survey. This is a project lead by Lung Cancer Europe (LuCE). LuCE is a non-profit umbrella organisation that represents people with lung cancer and their relatives at a European level.

Led by Mr Babu Naidu, Birmingham Hospitals Trust, a new NIHR research programme is taking place to explore whether a new app based prehabilitation programme 'Fit4Surgery', involving exercise, nutrition and health information before and after curative lung cancer treatment can improve the number of days a patient spends at home within 30 days after surgery.

Based on the information collected from the Royal Surrey Hospital, prospective analysis from the local cancer register shows only 10-15% of two week wait referrals have had the diagnoses of lung cancer over the past 3 years. The objective of this survey is to identify an appropriate job title for Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists who cover the diagnostic pathway for Lung Cancer.

Taking place on 1st August, World Lung Cancer Day raises awareness about lung cancer and its global impact. The day aims to create an educational movement of understanding lung cancer risks as well as early treatment around the world. There is a wealth of high quality information for patients and carers regarding lung cancer, its diagnosis and treatment. You may already have received referrals via the Free NHS Lung Health Check and the national Phase 3 expansion is now underway. This programme is part of the NHS’ Long Term Plan and is one of a number of initiatives introduces to help the NHS achieve their goal of diagnosing three in four cancers (75%) at an early stage by 2028. Patients are assessed by a nurse and those at highest risk are offered a Low Dose CT scan of the thorax.

Managing Deteriorating Conditions 2022, will be held on Tuesday 20th September 2022 at the NEC in Birmingham. The event will examine funding, priorities and innovation relating to the management of deteriorating conditions. Recognition of deterioration has been made a priority area by NHS as it seeks to focus upon key areas as Covid comes under control.
