The use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) is associated with reduced efficacy of atezolizumab in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), according to research published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology.  Given many patients are on concomitant PPI therapy further research in this area is required the researchers observed

Entries for the RCN Nursing Awards 2022 are now open. The deadline to submit your entry is TOMORROW - 25 March.  This year's RCN Nursing Awards are returning to a live, in-person awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on Thursday 6 October.  The RCN Nursing Awards celebrate incredible contributions to outstanding patient care and are open to all UK and Channel Islands nurses, midwives, health visitors, nursing students and nursing support workers. You do not need to be an RCN member to enter the RCN Nursing Awards.

In collaboration with DaSH Global, we have developed a new digital ‘Health Companion’ which enables patients to submit data regarding their quality of life and experiences in the management of lung cancer as well as any costs associated with the condition. The programme has previously been piloted as part of a study for Mesothelioma UK and adapted for lung cancer. We urge you to get involved and support this initiative.

LCNUK was so sorry to hear of the loss of Jackie Slevin, a member of LCNUK.  Say's Pete Barton who worked with Jackie, "Jackie’s knowledge of lung cancer and her skills not just in communication, but as an experienced nurse with a varied career, have helped mould others in our team because of the high standard of care she provided".   RIP Jackie. 

Following the announcement that current lead, Jenny Mitchell, plans to step down in 2022, LCNUK is seeking expressions of interest from members interested in chairing our thoracic surgical sub-group. The LCNUK Thoracic Surgical Group is involved in the production and dissemination of information and guidance in relation to thoracic surgery. The group meets at least three times a year and funding is provided to support travel expenses. Interested members should in the first instance email us to express their interest.

Last year LCNUK worked on a major new initiative to develop a professional framework specifically for lung cancer nurse specialists.  The Framework has been extremely well received and is being used as a tool by CNS to support requests for additional training and help with trusts.  You can access the tool via the LCNUK website
