A report on virtual consultations published by MSD and supported by LCNUK shares the results of a survey of lung cancer patients and healthcare professionals. MSD have also produced a report on the future lung cancer MDT with a helpful infographic.

The NLCA have reported that the 2018 data for this year’s Lung Cancer Clinical Outcomes Publication (LCCOP) audit have now been published. The LCCOP is a post-surgery audit of lung cancer patient outcomes across 27 surgical units in England. The audit is run collaboratively by the National Lung Cancer Audit and the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery.  A full report to accompany the data will be published this summer.

We are delighted to announce that after a forced break due to COVID-19, our Annual Workshop is back.  We'll be developing and implementing a project around the CNS role in supporting psychological needs of patients with lung cancer.  This face to face meeting takes place on 4/5 October 2021 with follow up virtual meetings.  This is a great opportunity for professional development.

Following the recent election, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Victoria Anderson, Monica Hugh, Sarah Ivey and Jennifer Ross to the LCNUK committee.  The committee are currently working on a number of programmes. LCNUK is delighted to announce funding for one - two small projects up to a total value of £5,000 per application.  Projects should generate research, evaluation or audit data that inform the practice of LCNUK members. The closing date for applications has been extended to 25 June 2021.

Our next webinar on next Tuesday, 25th May at 5.30pm is on Tackling Tobacco addiction in people with lung cancer with Dr Matt Evison. In this webinar, Dr Evison will provide an overview on the pathology of tobacco addiction, the need to medicalise this as a disease and the highly effective treatments it has. It will focus on the proactive role of the Lung Cancer CNS in treating this disease.

This webinar held on 17 May will be available on demand for viewing shortly.  The webinar focuses on recent advances in the treatment of mesothelioma.  The next live BTOG webinar is on 10 June 2021.

The NIHR working with the RCP are looking for clinicians in all clinical areas and specialties – including nurses to take part in a pilot of their Research Practice Experience for free. Applicants should be experienced clinicians, who have not been on an academic training pathway, and not yet had the opportunity to participate in the delivery of research.

In this MS TEAMS meeting sponsored by AstraZeneca, Rachel Powell, advanced clinical practitioner at University Hospital Birmingham will discuss the management of patients with EGFRm NSCLC.  The meeting takes place on 27th May from 12.45 and is scheduled to last approximately one hour.

Novartis have teamed up with Dr Shobhit Bailjal (Birmingham), Dr Philip Crosbie (Wythenshawe) and Jackie Fenemore (Christie) to develop a nationwide survey of the current management of NSCLC.  The survey will take around 45 minutes to complete. Dr Matthew Johnson, Macmillan Lead Cancer Nurse, based at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, has received a grant to investigate the experience of people and their main carer who have been living with mesothelioma for three years or more. He is currently seeking patients to participate in the study. If you have patients who might be interested please recommend them.
