Mesothelioma UK has launched a mobile app to provide mesothelioma patients and healthcare professionals with easy access to up-to-date information on UK-wide clinical trials.  The app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, provides general information about trials including different types and phases, things to consider before joining a trial and how to join.

Smoking history may help predict response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), according to a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.  Researchers evaluated 644 patients with advanced NSCLC who received ICI monotherapy.  After controlling for PD-L1 tumor proportion score (TPS) and other characteristics, smoking status was significantly associated with an increased Objective Response Rate.

Last week Cancer Nursing Practice published a guide to using gender-inclusive language, which means speaking and writing in a way that does not discriminate against a particular sex, social gender or gender identity, and does not perpetuate gender stereotypes, says the United Nations.  LCNUK provides links and sign-posting information on equality and diversity

The LCNUK Annual Workshop is back. We'll be developing and implementing a project around the CNS role in supporting psychological needs of patients with lung cancer. This face to face meeting takes place on 4/5 October 2021 with follow up virtual meetings. This is a great opportunity for professional development as well as catching up with old friends and networking.

On 28 September 2021 The Christie Hospital will be hosting a study day on lung cancer focusing on what the future holds for lung cancer.  The day will include presentations on managing symptom clusters , psychological impacts on patients, trials, EBUS and ROSE, prehabilitation and patient case studies
