LCNUK is calling for research abstracts and examples of best practice/service development for inclusion in the 2022 LCNUK national conference. Encore abstracts also welcomed. The Government is asking cancer patients, their relatives and NHS staff for their views on how it can improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in England.   Responses to the consultation will be used to inform the development of the Government’s 10-year Cancer Plan for England.  This is an opportunity to highlight the value of the lung CNS and the importance of the role for patients

Managing symptoms based on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) may reduce symptom burden and complications after lung cancer surgery, when compared with usual care, according to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

An excellent report by Mesothelioma UK and the University of Sheffield sheds light on the role of the Mesothelioma nurse in meeting the palliative care needs for people with mesothelioma and their carers/families.  The report was published in Palliative Medicine

The LCNUK annual workshop offers a unique opportunity to dip your toe into the basics of research and audit without having to over-commit.   Our next annual workshop is scheduled to take place on  7/8 March 2022.  Participants are required to be involved in adhoc telephone video-conferencing and a follow up video conference meeting in September 2022.

Lawyers often seek expert witness medical professionals to support various aspects of mesothelioma client claims including causation, care needs, care costs, non-NHS treatment options and treatment costs.  Mesothelioma UK has partnered with the Expert Witness Institute to deliver a bespoke mesothelioma expert witness course
that provides all the essential background, knowledge and information and is offering a two hour seminar on 31 March 2022. 

In collaboration with DaSH Global, we have developed a new digital ‘Health Companion’ which enables patients to submit data regarding their quality of life and experiences in the management of lung cancer as well as any costs associated with the condition. The programme has previously been piloted as part of a study for Mesothelioma UK and adapted for lung cancer. We urge you to get involved and support this initiative.

Following the announcement that current lead, Jenny Mitchell, plans to step down in 2022, LCNUK is seeking expressions of interest from members interested in chairing our thoracic surgical sub-group. The LCNUK Thoracic Surgical Group is involved in the production and dissemination of information and guidance in relation to thoracic surgery. The group meets at least three times a year and funding is provided to support travel expenses. Interested members should in the first instance email us to express their interest.

After a two year break, the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has opened its 2022 funding programme.  Research will be funded in two areas:
- Early detection of lung cancer
- Patient experience

These grants are awarded for up to two years and will not normally exceed £75,000 per annum.
