Cancer Therapy Advisor has published a report on COVID-19 outcomes with cancer drugs. The report concludes that current evidence suggests that patients with cancer, particularly those with hematologic malignancies or lung cancer, are likely to be at increased risk of severe COVID-19 and death from COVID-19 compared with patients without cancer.

It is clear that for many of those who have survived COVID-19 and the treatment required to combat it will have a lasting impact on their health. NHS England have produced a guide which supports health services to meet the immediate and longer-term care needs of patients discharged following an acute episode of COVID-19, by describing the typical expected health care needs of these patients, post-discharge.

Go2 Foundation for Lung Cancer are undertaking a patient perception survey as part of the broader TERAVOLT consortium. The survey is now live. Please encourage your patients to participate in this valuable work to understand the impact of COVID-19 on patients with thoracic malignancies. The TERAVOLT consortium is endorsed by IASLC.

The 2019 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey for England, carried out between December 2019 and March 2020, asked people living with and beyond cancer about all aspects of their care and treatment. Of the 67,858 people who responded, 92% said they were given a named CNS and of these, 85% found this person very or quite easy to contact. The survey, carried out by international health and social care charity Picker on behalf of NHS England and NHS Improvement, also found that 95% of patients rated their care as seven or above out of ten.

We launched a survey last month to find out from members about the impact of COVID-19 on patients and to explore how the Lung CNS workforce has been impacted. As services begin to recover we are concerned about the workload and the services we will be able to deliver to support our patients. Please complete the survey if you have not yet. A report on the results of the survey will be shared with the membership.

Regretfully, a number of LCNUK education programmes including our annual conference have had to be postponed as a result of COVID-19. However, we are delighted to announce that we will be running a series of live-streamed webinars exclusively for LCNUK members over the summer and autumn. Each webinar will feature a presentation by a leading expert on clinical and service delivery issues including management of IPC, brain metastases, managing virtual consultations and much more. Each webinar will be live and include the opportunity for you to ask questions and participate in interactive content and also available on-demand after the live event. Watch this space for more.

Today is Action Mesothelioma Day which aims to bring together all those who have faced mesothelioma and their families, carers and supporters to raise awareness of the disease and highlight ongoing clinical trials, nursing support, preventative measures and patient stories in mesothelioma.
