Earlier in the summer we consulted with the NLCFN membership and the majority view of those who responded was that NLCFN should update its name and branding.  We are delighted to report that we will be launching this at our conference in November.

We'll be circulating materials about this for you to share with colleagues in due course around the conference and our website will be getting a new look and focus

Macmillan Cancer Support have published a report which draws on the experiences of CNS' to explore the barriers nurses face in accessing CPD and the impact this has on patient care and the sustainability of the specialist nursing workforce. Macmillan want to see a strategic approach to workforce planning, training and education;so that we have the right number of NHS and care professionals with the right skills; so that everyone with cancer has the highest standard of coordinated care and support during and after treatment.

A small study involving 85 mice, from researchers at New York University, USA indicates that e-cigarettes are a lung carcinogen.  This resulted in alarming headlines in the British Press.  At present the jury is still out with respect to the effect of e-cigarettes in humans and NHS states, "They're not completely risk free, but they carry a small fraction of the risk of cigarettes"  They note that evidence suggests quitting smoking with an e-cigarette is particularly effective when combined with expert face-to-face support.

We are delighted to say that the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has provided us with packs which we are in the process of sending to you to help you prepare for lung cancer awareness month.  Your pack should be dropping on your doorstep within the next week or so and includes quit support materials, lung health fliers, "Follow my lead" fliers and campaign materials, stickers, Inspire magazines and a banner.
